Reflection
This was a very short semester, but I feel like I have learnt a lot of things when it comes to applying design principles to any piece of media. When doing research about the different design principles, I was amazed at how so many visual elements can make a design stand out. Each of them has a unique role that can be combined in the final design. Using the knowledge I have about the design principles, I was able to create an artwork using some of those elements.
What I enjoyed most about this module is coming up with the final design. I love to draw, so my mind was immediately flooded with ideas after I choosing the artwork by Ana Barboza. I went to find some references online and applied the visual elements I like about each of the references and added it to my sketches. I only ended up choosing one sketch out of the six, but it was fun to sketch out the other ideas anyway. I was able to get some insightful feedback from my lecturer as I was progressing through this module.
There isn't anything I particularly disliked about this module since I found myself enjoying it a lot. I will say that it was a very exhilarating process as not only did I have to think about the final design, I needed to find the right words to describe it. I usually find difficulty in expressing myself with words so I tried my best with those parts.
I've learnt that I can overdo things that would make it harder for myself to complete the assignment. I'm glad I managed to tone it down to reduce the workload for myself, otherwise I would not have been able to finish the assignment on time.
I feel that whenever I see any artworks nowadays, I will remember what I have learnt from this module and analyse those artworks. I can now understand why artists made the decisions that were made in their final artwork. The details are hard to notice without thinking about the design principles that they used.
I think for this module, it would be nice to have group assignments. Having someone to discuss with about the design principles can be beneficial to everyone in the group. It is also a great way to make some new friends as well.
