Reflection

Experience
Over the course of these 14 weeks, I definitely feel like I have gotten the hang of typography now. Before joining this module, I had no idea what we will even be doing because from a surface-level, typography looks like it's just about letters and fonts and it would seem like a very boring topic. But as the weeks go by I understand the complexity behind typography and I got more into it. There were many challenges along the way, mostly due to my typography assignments clashing with assignments from other modules, but I managed to overcome them and finish my tasks in due time.

Observations
There are many letterforms in the world, and each one has its own characteristic that makes them stand out. I noticed this while playing around with the fonts provided to us. Such small details can go a long way when it comes to design.

I also began to take notice of letterforms in my everyday life, such as seeing the letters on shop banners, graphic T-shirts, or the letters on a book cover. As someone who loves reading books, I can see why the graphic designer for book covers chose a specific font since a suitable font can give an idea to the reader on what the theme of the story will be about (for example, if the book takes place in a fantasy setting, the font on the book cover should look beautiful with elegant strokes). The same goes for graphic T-shirts that usually use exaggerated letterforms to make the T-shirt stand out.

Findings
Typography is definitely not easy to master if you lack passion and patience in it, especially if you want to go into a professional graphic design field of work. It takes time and effort to craft a perfect font that will not only be satisfactory to you, but to others as well.

In public, where typography would be applied to large display screens outside, most people would just read the text for less than 5 seconds and proceed to go about their way. It's something easy to overlook and yet we still have graphic designers carefully choosing the right font and nitpicking every small detail they can see, knowing full well many people would just glance at their work before looking away. Because of this I have formed a deeper appreciation for graphic designers today.
